VERY BAD ENGLISH

COLOMBIA HAS THE LOWEST LEVEL OF ENGLISH IN LATIN AMERICA

The Spanish-speaking countries are among the worst in the world in how English is concerned and Colombia is the country with the lowest level of the Hispanic region revealed the world's largest survey of English language proficiency, the Inglés Proficiency Index (EPI ). Still, Colombia could reach the level of other Hispanic countries if its economy continues to grow, although compared to the previous year, down 9 places in the overall ranking.

The quality of the school system and the levels of below-average equity condemn Latin America to be in the last positions in the regional breakdown

VERBS

VERBS

Verbs have traditionally been defined as words that show action or state of being.

MODAL VERBS

MODAL VERBS

Modal verbs are auxiliary verbs that can not function as a main verb, unlike the auxiliary verb "be", "do" and "have" that they can function as a main verb.

Modal verbs express modality. They can express ability, possibility, necessity or other status. Auxiliary verbs are the future and the conditional. The English verb tenses are not enough to express ideas of possibility or uncertainty. There is no conditional tense in English. Simultaneously, auxiliaries used for conditional. Nor is there as the subjunctive tense in Spanish. So it is very important to understand the uses of modal verbs.

BULLYING

                                                               BULLYING

School Bullying Statistics:
When it comes to verbal bullying, this type of bullying is the most common type with about 77 percent of all students being bullied verbally in some way or another including mental bullying or even verbal abuse. These types of bullying can also include spreading rumors, yelling obscenities or other derogatory terms based on an individual's race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc. Out of the 77 percent of those bullied, 14 percent have a severe or bad reaction to the abuse, according to recent school bullying statistics. These numbers make up the students that experience poor self-esteem, depression, anxiety about going to school and even suicidal thoughts (bullycide) as a result of being bullied by their peers. Also as part of this study, about one in five students admitted they are responsible for bullying their peers. Almost half of all students fear harassment or bullying in the bathroom at school, according to these school bullying statistics. As a result of this fear and anxiety of being bullied, many students will make excuses or find ways around going to school. School bullying statistics also reveal that teens ages 12-17 believe they have seen violence increase at their schools. In fact, these numbers also show that most violent altercations between students are more likely to occur on school grounds than on the way to school for many teens.

GLOBAL WARNING

                                                 GLOBAL WARNING

Glaciers are melting, sea level increases, the forests are drying, and wildlife struggle to keep pace. It is increasingly clear that humans have caused most of the warming of the last century, by the emission of gases that trap heat, to enhance our modern life. Called greenhouse gases and their levels are getting higher, now and in the past 65,000 years.

We call the result global warming, but it is causing a series of changes in the Earth's climate or weather long-term patterns vary by location. As the Earth spins each day, the new heat turn rotates picking up moisture from the oceans, rising here and settling there. It is changing the pace of climate that all living beings have become accustomed.

What will we do to slow this warming? How will we deal with the changes that have already been implemented? As we try to understand it, the face of the Earth as we know it, its coasts, forests, farms and snow-capped mountains are on tenterhooks.

TAG QUESTION

                                                            TAG QUESTION

You speak English, don't you?
A tag question is a special construction in English. It is a statement followed by a mini-question. The whole sentence is a "tag question", and the mini-question at the end is called a "question tag".

We use tag questions at the end of statements to ask for confirmation. They mean something like: "Am I right?" or "Do you agree?" They are very common in English.
The basic structure is:

statementquestion tag
+
Positive statement,
-
negative tag?
Snow is white,isn't it?
-
Negative statement,
+
positive tag?
You don't like me,do you?

Notice that the question tag repeats the auxiliary verb (or main verb when be) from the statement and changes it to negative or positive.

PASSIVE VOICE

                                                PASSIVE VOICE

Passive voice
One can change the normal word order of many active sentences (those with a direct object) so that the subject is no longer active, but is, instead, being acted upon by the verb - or passive.
Note in these examples how the subject-verb relationship has changed.

Because the subject is being "acted upon" (or is passive), such sentences are said to be in the passive voice.

ACTIVE VOICE

                                                   ACTIVE VOICE

Active voice
In most English sentences with an action verb, the subject performs the action denoted by the verb.
These examples show that the subject is  doing the verb's action.

Because the subject does or "acts upon" the verb in such sentences, the sentences are said to be in the active voice.

LETTER

THE LETTER

A letter is a grapheme (written character) in an alphabetic system of writing, such as the Greek alphabetand its descendants. Letters compose phonemes and each phoneme represents a phone (sound) in thespoken form of the language. Letters also appear in abjads (alphabets with consonants only).
Written signs in other writing systems are best called syllabograms (which denote a syllable) orlogograms (which denote a word or phrase).

FUTURE TENSES

                                                                    FUTURE TENSES

PAST TENSES

                                                                   PAST TENSES

The simple past tense is used to talk about finished actions that happened at a specific time in the past. You state when it happened using a time adverb.
You form the simple past of a verb by adding -ed onto the end of a regular verb but, irregular verb forms have to be learnt. There are several examples of irregular verbs in our Picture It section.

1. Simple past include:

JAMES RODRIGUEZ

JAMES RODRIGUEZ

James David Rodríguez Rubio; born 12 July 1991), usually known as James Rodríguez  or simply James is a Colombian footballer who plays for Spanish club Real Madrid and the Colombian national team, as an attacking midfielder or winger.
Rodríguez is commonly ranked as one of the best young players in the world. He has received praise for his technique, vision and playmaking skills, and has been referred to as the successor to his compatriot Carlos Valderrama.

REAL MADRID

in a post-match interview during the 2014 FIFA World Cup, James stated his 'love', 'admiration', and 'passion' for Real Madrid, and that it would be a 'life's dream' to play for them in response with his performances arousing rumors linking him to the Spanish giants.
On 22 July 2014, Rodríguez confirmed the rumors by signing a 6-year contract with the Spanish giants for an undisclosed fee, which was reported to be around €80 million. This move would make him the 4th most expensive player in history, the 3rd most expensive in Real Madrid's history, and the most expensive Colombian to date surpassing Radamel Falcao's €60 million in 2013 The amount spent on his transfer fee led many to refer James as a Galáctico, also credited by the fact that he was given the number 10 shirt, carrying the legacy of Real Madrid legends such as Luís FigoFerenc Puskás, and the player he admired the most while growing up and supporting the club, Zinedine Zidane.
James was greeted by a 45,000 attendance during his presentation. The Colombian Ambassador in Madrid made a speech, carrying a message from the Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, stating that James was changing the history of Colombian football and that the entire nation is behind him. Florentino Pérez would follow with a speech of his own, stating that he welcomed James, a 'lover' and 'long supporter' of the club who will never forget the day he made his dream a reality.48 hours following his unveiling, it was reported that 345,000 of his shirt replicas were sold, breaking a record following the signing of any other player who joined the club in their respective time.
