MODAL VERBS

MODAL VERBS

Modal verbs are auxiliary verbs that can not function as a main verb, unlike the auxiliary verb "be", "do" and "have" that they can function as a main verb.

Modal verbs express modality. They can express ability, possibility, necessity or other status. Auxiliary verbs are the future and the conditional. The English verb tenses are not enough to express ideas of possibility or uncertainty. There is no conditional tense in English. Simultaneously, auxiliaries used for conditional. Nor is there as the subjunctive tense in Spanish. So it is very important to understand the uses of modal verbs.
